It only took 3 hours to put in the drainpipes, including coffee breaks and numerous smokes. Not complaining about that, this is a job I've only done a few times before, again I was fortunate enough to have someone who knows how it goes.
SURVEYOR TRANSFERRING HIS MEASURES TO THE GROUND, THIS IS ONE CORNER OF THE HOUSE
PROTECTIVE MEMBRANE BETWEEN CLAY AND HARDCORE
SEEPAGE DRAIN AND MEMBRANE
SEEPAGE DRAIN AND MEMBRANE ON GABLE ENDThe reason for the seepage drain and membrane is, 1, the under soil is clay, groundwater can't penetrate it, therefore, we put a special pipe underground, this pipe is full of small holes, which the water can flow into, any groundwater is then led away to the main drains.
The membrane, that is to keep the clay and hardcore from mixing, over the years the weight of the hardcore will press down on the clay, no membrane and seepage drain could lead to subsidence, which is not a very good thing in any ones book. Up till now I've been fortunate, this is the first time in 20 years that I have had to put a membrane down, seepage drains are a matter of course in Finland, just goes to show, an old dog can learn a new trick, now where's my biscuit.
